BREAST CANCER-Your help is needed
This was sent to me by a friend who lost his mother to breast cancer. Not only did it change and ultimately claim her life, it also tore his life and that of his little sisters to bits and left his roommates in a bind when he had to move out and go back home to provide sibling care.

Breast Cancer not only affects one woman, but all of those around her and those who care about her. Yes, we've made advances, but there's still so much left to do.

So what better to get the word out than here on LJ? It'll just take a few moments and millions may benefit from your time.

Subject: Proposed Mastectomy Law Change

I'll never forget the look in my patients eyes when I had to tell them they had to go home with the drains, new exercises and no breast. I remember begging the doctors to keep these women in the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands were tied by the insurance companies.

So there I sat with my patients giving them the instructions they needed to take care of themselves, knowing full well they didn't grasp half of what I was saying, because the glazed, hopeless, frightened look spoke louder than the quiet 'Thank you' they muttered.

A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed in order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue. If you know anyone who has had a mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure. Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery.

This Mastectomy Bill is in Congress now. It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important. Please take the time and do it really quick! The Breast Cancer Hospitalization Bill is important legislation for all women.

Please send this to everyone in your address book. If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times. If you're receiving this, it's because I think you will take the 30 seconds to go to vote on this issue and send it on to others you know who will do the same.

There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the 'drive-through mastectomy' where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year overhalf the House signed on. PLEASE! Sign the petition by clicking on the web site below. You need not give more than your name and zip code number.

On the right you will see PETITION -- Just click on that box

This takes about 2 seconds. PLEASE PASS THIS ON to your friends or re-post in your journal.

I hope the petition helps and it passes. Absolutely horrid how ill human beings are treated sometimes. Where's the compassion? :[ I don't understand how anyone can put money above any human life, I really don't. As if these people aren't already suffering enough, they can't even get proper care. Makes me sick, sad, and angry.

Speaking as a person without any health benefits and a ton of medical issues, it doesn't surprise me at all. Criminals get better health care. Grrrrrrrrrr

It doesn't surprise me either since it's everywhere and always has been, sadly enough, but what does baffle me is how anyone can consciously leave others suffering and even dying simply over money. Money has been made important in the world, but it is not so important that it precedes human life and decency. But, I know I am preaching to the choir here. :\

I hope this petition helps with this bill, I can empathise, although I'm in the UK where many people complain about the state of our national health service. As I had a mastectomy just before Christmas I know what a trauma it can be,it's a time when you need special care during and after the op. I wasn't let go until the drains came out, which medically is the right thing. I dread to think what it would be like for a woman who had to leave hospital as soon as the op was done, just when they need the emotional care as well as medical.

I know. And all for the sake of money. It's crap!

Hope you're doing well. *hugs*

/sarcasm in the extreme

Well, you know, the money has to come from somewhere to help insurance companies pay for their clients' Viagra.
