One of the "substitute people"
Can I substitute for Kirsten?
Only shit like this could happen to me
We had some really harsh storms here last night. Nothing new about that--spring in Kentucky--you expect it. However, what I walked into 9 1/2 hours later I never expected.

I was tired and took a nap while the tv was on telling us of storms and possible tornadoes nearby. I got up and turned of my pc and went back to sleep on the couch. Never thought anything about it. FInally decided to head to bed at about 4:45 am.

Didn't exactly pan out.

I got up to my room and turned on the light, the ceiling fan and floor fan were still on and laid my book on the bed and turned on the tv. Then I realized the bed was wet. Automatically, I figure Brady has taken a leak in the bed because he's afraid of storms--though how he got up on my bed, I'll never know. I'm nearly 5'10" and I have to stand on my toes to get into it.

So I started stripping the bed. All the way down to the mattress pad and then I saw the large stain (half the mattress) and went ballistic. This mattress is only about 14 months old. It's a double pillow top and the thing was saturated. I start cursing the dog telling him I hope body parts start rotting off. I debate waking wav and telling her and after about 20 minutes of trying to clean the mattress, I wake her up and tell her what's going on.

Anyway, to make a terribly long story a tad shorter, it seems there's more damage than just Brady taking a wizz on my bed--it wasn't him (this time). Evidentally, water came in around the light fixture through the roof and with the ceiling fan on, the water was blown all over the room like a lawn sprinkler. It's ruined too many pics of Orlando for me to talk about, one of my Orlando calendars, water stains on the cherry furniture, water stains the curtains and there's water spots on the wall as well. It got a zine and god knows what else--I've not tested the dvd player or vcr yet--I'm giving them plenty of time to dry out.

So now I sit here waiting for our condo president to get her arse outta bed so I can call her and report this and then try and figure out how and *if* I can clean my mattress and *when* it can be done. All this on a two hour nap and my sister is due in later today and I have to make a road trip down town as well as deal with all of this.

I'd say when it rains, it pours but that's just not funny right now.

Can't decide if 6 am is too early for alcohol or not.

OMGs, you realize that coulda started an electric fire or something? Electronics and water don't get along. I'm not glad it happened, but I'm glad only *that* happened. As you know, I have plenty more Orlikins stuff for you so don't worry about anything that I can replace for you, m'kay?

*sniff* Okay. And yeah, the idea of the electrical issue had crossed our minds. I just have this visual of one of those kids lawn sprinklers with the music from Seven Flags playing in the backgroung and that little guy dancing. Okay, *that's* amusing--the rest isn't. *sigh*

The condo bitch called--they're responsible for the roof. *We're* responsible for the rest. OY! So now I wait to find out if my mattress can be sucked dry.

Tears all around. And no sleep.

Yeah, I had the same resposible issue when i noticed a leak in my kitchen. They wanted me to hire my own pumbler to see if it was coming from my pipes or the condos or the upstairs.... with me being liable chasing those responsible for money in the end. No, was not gonna happen. So the condo finally agreed to call in their own people and it was coming from upstairs. It's a good thing too 'cause they stuck him with the bill to make it stop, even though he refused to fix the damage to my apartment so lord knows he never would have paid *me* back to fix his own pipes if I'd done that. Sucks all around. *sigh*

I'm just glad I wasn't home to see the fight that caused that kinda damage. lol

BTW, I musta had this on the mind when I went to bed cause I dreamt I decided to visit early as to not get snowed in so I arrived at your house not having the time to pack Orlikins stuff and was promptly sent back to the airport to get it right. lol

I like the GG icons! You are doing really amazing work as always!

OMG! That is horrible! I'm so sorry sweetie. Do you have homeowner's insurance or will the condo association dues pay for the insurance claims? :-(

I totally sympatheize, we had a bad lightening storm about 8 years ago and a bolt struck somewhere very close by because we could smell the ozone when the power went out; it fried my TV, VCR, stereo, phones, boombox, computer, the A/C, clocks...basically all our electronics.

Have a stiff drink, it won't help but it does taste good.

I'm so sorry you had to go through all that!!

I get up and turn off and unplug the pc. I take no chances. But I *never* thought my bedroom was th next best thing to Splashin' Safari.

Our condo maintenance guy just came by and fixed the shingles and cleaned out the wet insulation and then painted the walls. Good, yeah. But then there's all the water damage to my pictures and posters--and lal of them were framed. I just noticed last night that the Orlando "Read" poster got damaged--the whole bottom was saturated with water and now it just looks like crap. None of this stuff is covered because the deductible is too high for the amount of damage. I'm ill and unemployed and I just don't have any money for replacing stuff. So yeah, there were tears involved. *sigh*
