*huggles*

People are... assholes :( And sadly your no-hotlink icon is probably not going to change this person's mind; just speaking out of expirience *sigh*

What does your script? Just out of interest.

Also, did you report them to Xanga for hotlinking?

Yes, I've reported them. Again. OY.

My roommie gave me a script to put in my main folder that only allows certain addresses to show my images. I could give it to you here, but it might not transfer right due to the fact it's a script. But if you write me off lj at Ara@kixxster.org, I'll gladly send it to you.

And yeah, the image probably won't stop the theft, but it might embarrass them for a time. So good. You know?

*hugs*

If the script is something else than .htaccess, I'd be interested in it, purely to look at the code *is geeky*
I have hotlink protection on my domain, only allowing LJ to hotlink anything on my domain, and since I had that up for a few weeks, the hotlinking went down to almost nothing. There's always from time to time one person who tries, but mostly out of ignorance, not meaning to steal. And they only get a red x anyway, which annoys them probably much more than I get annoyed at them trying to hotlink *gg*

If they can't get the pics from your domain anymore, the hotlinking should, well not stop, but slow down a lot. They'll probably still steal, icons always are, but they'll at least won't be able to use your bandwidth anymore *hugs*

True--I'm just hoping it will embarrass them and they'll stop. I guess I wait and see now. I've never had this kind of problem before and I've had a site since the early 90's.

Nope, it's a .htaccess script. Nothing major. I dunno if it'll come out right, but here it is:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} .
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://([^.]+\.)?ara.kixxster\. [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://([^.]+\.)?livejournal\. [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !google\. [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !search\?q=cache [NC]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/hotlink\.jpg$
RewriteRule \.(gif|jpg|png)$ /hotlink.jpg [NC,L]
