what about a comic character like:
Mercutio in Shekespear's 'Romeo and Juliet',
Truffaldino in Goldoni's 'Il servitore di due padroni' (The Servant of Two Masters)
or maybe a slightly sinister one as:
Franz Moor or Spiegelberg in von Schiller's 'die Räuber' (the Robbers)
Mephisto in Goethe's 'Faust 1',
Tartuffe in Moliere's 'Tartuffe ou l'Imposteur'?

Or maybe Falk or Lind in Ibsen's 'Kjærlighedens Komedie' (Love's Comedy)
Or what about Marquis von Posa in Schiller's 'Don Carlos', or the main character himself? (sorry but I'm kind of a "fan" of Schiller, being German I think it's perfectly normal)

I would definately like to see him on stage, since I think whether or not someone is a good actor, is quite easily seen on stage (and although I think he is a good actor he hasn't overwhelmed me yet, as say Alan Rickman or Sir Michael Gambon).

As for a role in a film? If they ever remade 'Love Actually' I'd love to see him as either Colin Firth's or Andrew Lincoln's character... (although those two were absolutely perfect)

You've got some great ones there and yes, I'd like to see him do comedy as well. He has such great timing. :)

Did you ever watch "the calcium kid"? I happen to like british comedies, one of my all time favourite ones is "the full monty" and although not quite as good calcium kid falls into that genre, that was one of his best performances (maybe because he is kind of a dope?).
I came across the quote he'd like to do Hamlet himself at the Swan with the Royal Shakepear, quite frankly I hope he won't do it for a while, I just can't see him as a convincing Prince of Denmark. If he wants to do Shakespear he should consider one of the comedies, maybe even the Puck (probably my most despised piece by Shakepear although I'm quite fond of Puck); he he the elve playing the pixi!

I *loved* "The Full Monty" and "The Calcium Kid". Both pricelss in their own ways. And Puck? Oh yeah.
