Can I substitute for Kirsten?

Okay... I don't usually get blunt on-line
But I am *sick* of seeing nothing but Jack/Elizabeth fics now that PotC:Dead Man's Chest is out. I had such high hopes for fic after this sequel hit the screens and after always having a hard time finding any fic in the fandom--and by fic I mean something that is over two pages in a word document. I'm not into snippets, drabbles, prompts, long sentences, whatever you call them. They're like Tic-Tacs--satisfying for about 20 seconds and then they're gone with no lasting impact. But hey--that's me. But I just *knew* there would be more Jack/Will and Jack/Will/Elizabeth fics after the films release!! I'd *counted* on it. But other than one Will/Davy (ouch) it's ALL Jack and Elizabeth--NO Will and I don't mind saying I feel cheated *especially* when WILL is the only character that seems to have remained true to the established characterizations, IMO. I'm frustrated, aggrivated and disheartened.

AARRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So if I'm missing any new fics or anyone knows of any good older stuff--please, help me out. I don't need this kind of frustration.

[EDIT] Okay, there's one--a WIP by scifiroots which I look forward to reading once it's done.

Well, it's only been out a few days, and the J/E shippers have felt like the unwanted stepchildren for a long time. You can't blame them for going a little crazy.

I'm just frustrated because I could never find more than a few fics here or there from the first film. And I had such high hopes for this one...

Re: dammit, hit enter to early

I used to write. A lot. But my illness has not allowed me to do that these past few years. So I count on others to write while I crank out the pics and icons.

I never read *any* wip's until they're done. It's too hard to read a piece at a time and remember where I left off. So I save them in a file and updated my saved doc as they're updated. Some do get finished. But most don't. And yeah, very frustrating.

If I could write these days, trust me, I would. But I fear those days are long, long gone.

No, you're not the only one who complains about that. We have a member of Black Pearl Sails who really gets annoyed at having her appetite whetted with drabbles and never getting into the "meat" of a story. That's one reason I was persuaded to continue Dark of the Moon, which was originally a double drabble (200 words exactly), as I recall.

I'm certain there will be more Will/Jack and Will/Jack/Elizabeth (and possibly even Will/Jack/Elizabeth/Norrington, which was my thought on first seeing the swordfight), but longer stories take time. Meanwhile, you have read tessabeth's Will/Jack stories, haven't you? She just posted them to her journal recently (they used to be on the Parlay Archive and on webcrowmancer's now defunct but much missed site). I assume you've read fabu's stuff (she writes great W/J/E) and the_stowaway's. And then viva_gloria's fics are always worth rereading (over and over).
araestel From: araestel Date: July 12th, 2006 12:19 am (UTC) (Link)
Good--so it's not just me. You see, I come from fandoms that are known for very long fics (they shall remain nameless--I'm not uttering one of their names here under swordpoint) and shorter snippets/drabbles/whatever aren't so prevalent. It makes me nuts to see stuff that's 300 words or 500 words--that's not a fic--that's a memo. ;)

Yes, I've grabbed a bunch from tessabeth and fabu, as well as viva_gloria and a few others. I believe the_stowaway is new, but I might be wrong. I'll go check her out now. I found a few things on Parley and was in the middle of checking it out fully when it went down. *sigh* Took me forever to find *that*.

I honestly don't begrudge anyone their pairings. I don't. The more fic there is, the happier everyone is. But me personally? I wouldn't read a Norrington fic if you paid me. Not with anyone. I can't say why, just that he's not my cuppa. So right there, half the fic that's out there is out for me. And I really just thought there would be more J/W after the release of the new film, but alas--not so much.

It's really just a disappointment and me venting it on lj. Sorry If I've offended or annoyed. 'Twas not my intent. *hugs*

gosh! What communities are you watching where there is het? *hisses* Forget Will/Jack! I want me some Johnny/Orlando!!!!!! Did you watch that press conference in Tokyo?! It was the Johnny/Orlando slashfest 2006!!! lol. They are so adorable together *G*

I'd love to read some Johnny/Orlando and if you find any--PLEASE share!

I read somewhere recently that Orlando is like McDonalds--over 3 million slashed. LOL Uh huh

Sorry you're so upset over fic.
veronica_rich From: veronica_rich Date: July 12th, 2006 03:45 am (UTC) (Link)
Well, that was a bit snarky. I sort of thought LJ was for those little things that plague our make-believe lives - at least it is for me. (If I have a real problem out in the world, I take it up with the person giving me the trouble - this is my escape from escapism, as it were.)
veronica_rich From: veronica_rich Date: July 12th, 2006 03:43 am (UTC) (Link)
Give us a chance, eh, love? I've only seen it twice, and it's only been out a few days, at any rate.

Besides, it's very easy to write canon-fic; it's THERE, it's easy to see and access right away, it's justified. It's much more difficult to work with what isn't right there explicitly. (If it makes you feel better, I mod a YahooGroups J/W list, and we've picked up like 30 new members in the past few days who were all over the latent slash in the second movie *alone*.)

That said, check out metalkatt's journal - she posted a story recently from Will's POV, "Enough is Enough." You might like it.
araestel From: araestel Date: July 12th, 2006 04:24 am (UTC) (Link)
Oh--I'll check that out for sure! I'm hoping my pairings are just taking longer. I just got so frustrated when all I was seeing was Jack/Elizabeth. I guess I'd just built it up in my head and I wanted more of my favorite pairing and when it didn't happen, I got annoyed.

*hugs*

J/E

I think that people are going with that on screen kiss they had. It was very hot, hotter than any Will/Lizzy kisses so far. But Kiera wanted to kiss Johnny in the film so she got what she wished for. Anyhow, Give people time to write maybe they will, maybe they won't. My story is nearing completion "A Life Known" so maybe you can read it soon. It is Vig/Orli which is my fav to read. So of course my Fav to write even though its my first.LOL Anyway...again cheer up, go see the movie again, I saw it for the second time today. It was better the second time because you know whats going on and its not so confusing to us idiots!and that Naomie Harris is much easier to understand the second time around!

Re: J/E

I agree--it *is* better the second time around! ;) It also helps that I was in the middle of the theatre so I could actually hear. The midnight show Thursday had me and roommie in the back corner on the wrong side--I'm dear in my left ear and that was the one not shoved up against the wall. LOL

Yes, I'm saving "A Life Known" and am really looking forward to reading it.

*hugs*

This may be of no use at all as it isn't online fic, it's a zine but I thought I'd mention it just in case(& it's not written to include the new filmverse). I really loved Parley & the new sequel Matelotage by Glow & Moonshine. (I did some illos for the 2nd zine but that's not why I'm pimping - they really are glorious Will/Jack novels imo.)
I burbled on about it here: http://bluespirit-star.livejournal.com/220005.html
Hope this helps, sweetheart.

Oh yes--I have them! Bast picked up Mateltoge up for me at Media West. I LOVED it. As I loved Parley. Now if only there were more like that...

Don't worry, it will happen!

Hey,
don't worry! POTC comes out tomorow here in Holland. Might be that in the rest of Europe it is released even later. Who knows what kind of jems are being written even when you speak!

A Certain Spark. When you've read one of her stories, you're hooked. She's the best in many fandoms. :)

I thought I was the only one that hated drabbles and shit like that. I'll take them if I'm desperate, but there's only one woman I know of that's any good at making a meaty short story and that's sy_fanfiction. I think that's her name... maybe it's sy_fiction... crap! She's been doing mostly Kingdom Hearts stuff though. Most of her stories are short, but she packs a lot into them.

I'm more of an epic fic person meself. I like a good long angsty story with Jack/Will or Johnny/Orlando. So hot to me. Can't get enough of the pairing.
araestel From: araestel Date: July 16th, 2006 05:26 pm (UTC) (Link)
AMEN!! I'm the same way, but I've enot had much luck with fic. Oh, there's stuff after the first flim, but nothing from the new one. And I have a hard time finding stuff from even the first one. I dunno why the fandom seems to promote the little stuff. I want to delve into a fic and 200 words is more like a post-it note. ;) Not to say those shorts are bad, I just want more.

[EDIT] Okay, there's one--a WIP by scifiroots which I look forward to reading once it's done.

*blinks* Wait. What? Wow, maybe it pays off to randomly browse tags. *g* I just saved a bunch of your icons for future use and voila, I turn up this post eventually!

I can't remember if you've commented on any stories but.... I assume the wip mentioned here was Ocean Soul? It's not completed =) (and here)
